So up next was Borneo, we would start on the very west of Sarawak in its capitol Kuching. Here was the perfect base to branch of on different adventures a easy laid back city built around a huge river with easy connections to famous national parks, orangutan sanctuary’s and native longhouses. Borneo for some reason was also harbouring a plague, first I was sick, then Coline was sick, then I was sick, then Coline was sick. It slowed and sped up our trip, when I was sick we would be stuck doing almost nothing for a phew days, then at the first signs of life we shot of to quickly do everything we needed to see then moved on to the next place.
This pattern repeated itself for the rest of our destinations, Sibu, Miri and Mulu. Borneo was a beautiful place simply, we saw more wildlife, real wildlife too in a phew outings than we did a whole week of sneaking and waiting in Teman Negara, the national parks where more accessible, easier to traverse and many times more beautiful… Teman Negara was beautiful also so this one being so much more so I hope expresses how stunning it was.
To finish we spent some time in Mulu, it was an unplanned addition to the Borneo trip but perhaps the highlight! This national park was so crammed full of life and natural wonders, it was sensory overload. However so cut of from the main cities and supply lines, that this one road town only 4km in length, had its challenges. But this rationed lifestyle added to sense of adventure and gave us awareness of how remote this location was.
